A Chargrill Charlie’s takeaway outlet is set to open in Fairlight, pending approvals. It will take over a former veterinary clinic site on Sydney Road.
New Chargrill Charlie’s Location Proposed for Fairlight
A well-known Sydney chicken chain is preparing to expand its northern beaches footprint with a new outlet planned for Fairlight, subject to NBC processes currently underway.

From Vet Clinic to Takeaway Chicken Shop
The proposed site at 156 Sydney Road, Fairlight—formerly home to Manly Veterinary Clinic—is undergoing internal modifications in anticipation of becoming a Chargrill Charlie’s takeaway store. The vet clinic has relocated nearby to 150 Sydney Road.

Signage Application Under Review
A development application (DA2025/0302) has been lodged with NBC seeking approval for business identification signage at the Fairlight location. The proposal includes the installation of the chain’s trademark red and yellow signage. The estimated cost of work is $11,495.

According to documents submitted to NBC, the signage design aims to add visual interest without negatively impacting the surrounding streetscape. The development is currently undergoing review for a complying development certificate.
Fairlight Location to Join Existing Network
Chargrill Charlie’s operates 21 outlets across Sydney, including three on the northern beaches in Dee Why, Frenchs Forest and Mona Vale. The first restaurant opened in Coogee in 1989.
The Fairlight expansion would bring the brand’s offering of rotisserie chicken, burgers, schnitzels, salads and branded merchandise to a new harbourside suburb.
Neighbouring Businesses and Market Context
The Fairlight site sits in close proximity to several local food outlets, including The Butcher’s Cafe, Fairlight Kitchen Chinese restaurant, and Pizza at Yours, suggesting a competitive market for casual dining in the area.

Next Steps
The development is currently within its public exhibition period, which runs from 10 April to 24 April 2025. NBC is assessing the application, and work on the interior of the building is already underway pending approval outcomes.
