Owners of boat trailers in Fairlight are now expected to permanently comply with a new No Parking ruling, following a trial conducted by the Northern Beaches Council from June to December 2018.
The test resulted in a significant reduction of problem areas and parking complaints due to boat trailers.
Specifically, boat trailers will no longer be allowed to park in the stretch of Balgowlah Road in Fairlight. The council is also looking at imposing a trailer-parking permit system as well as expanding the current permanent zones.
Aside from Balgowlah Road, these 10 other sites are now permanent No Parking zones for boat trailers:
- Aitken Reserve, Queenscliff
- Allambie Road, Allambie Heights
- Barrenjoey Road, Avalon Beach
- Bassett Street, Mona Vale
- Harbord Park, Freshwater
- Jacka Park, Freshwater
- John Fisher Park, North Curl Curl
- Kenneth Road, Manly Vale
- Lake Park Road, North Narrabeen
- Richmond Avenue, Dee Why
“Boat trailers parked on the side of the road are one of our most complained about issues,” Northern Beaches Mayor Michael Regan said.
“In 2017, we received 329 complaints concerning boat trailers in Pittwater alone compared to 2018 when we received 174 in the designated trial area showing a clear decline in complaints and therefore proving the trial was successful.”
The Council is also studying other options to address this boat trailer parking issues since others have relocated to residential but less busy streets.
“Some residents are understandably concerned as these trailers are often left unattended for extended period,” Mr Regan said.
